Salesforce has developed a modern UI—Salesforce Lightning—which brings new features, increased productivity, faster deployments, and a seamless transition across desktop and mobile environments. For those of you who are using Salesforce Classic and considering a migration to Lightning, we think that now is a great time to make the switch!

What benefits does Lightning offer?

Salesforce introduced Lightning in 2016 and has made some significant investments in the platform, making it fully mature by now. Furthermore, all the shiny new features going forward will be Lightning-specific (read: not available in Classic).

Some examples of the worthwhile improvements are:

  • New UI: This new user interface not only looks advanced, but it's also more flexible and dynamic than the classic layout.
  • Lightning App Builder: With the Lightning App Builder, you can easily customize your Lightning pages with simple drag-and-drop configuration.
  • Kanban View: Opportunities are now easier to manage with the new Kanban view. This view shows up to four key fields on each opportunity and allows you to drag a record to the next stage.
  • Enhanced Reports, Charts, and Dashboards: Reports have a new, innovative design with modern appearance and enhanced functionalities.
  • Salesforce Einstein: Salesforce has launched its newest feature called Einstein, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to help determined companies be more predictive about their customers.
  • And many more!

Do I have to switch to the Salesforce Lightning GUI?

As you know, Salesforce will activate Lightning Experience—starting winter 2020—enabling users to move faster, do more, and be more productive. This initiation means that users will be automatically logged-into the Lightning GUI from that moment going forward.

We encourage everyone to start preparing to transition to Lightning Experience soon so that your users can benefit from everything the new interface has to offer. The future of the Salesforce user experience and platform is in Salesforce Lightning. Furthermore, all Salesforce innovations will be deployed in Lightning Experience.

Take advantage of the lead time before Lightning Experience’s activation to understand how your organizational features and customization perform in the new interface, and to prepare your users via change management. Starting now ensures a better experience for everyone when Lightning Experience is turned on later.

Better yet, take control and set up Lightning Experience for your users before this update is auto-activated, on your terms.

What are the considerations before migrating?

Although there are many benefits with switching to Lightning, not all functionalities are supported and there are some things you will want to consider before making the switch. The below list is not an extensive list of unsupported features, but rather some items that you will want to consider before migrating to Lightning:

  • AppExchange Apps: If you are using any AppExchange apps, ensure that they are Lightning Ready. If the app is supported in the Lightning Experience, a “Lightning Ready” sash appears on its AppExchange listing.
  • Custom JavaScript buttons: Lightning does not support this function. Instead, you can choose to use quick actions, triggers, or workflow rules as possible alternatives.
  • Visualforce Pages: If your company relies on custom Visualforce pages, you will want to review these and determine which ones are necessary and need to move to a new Salesforce Lightning Component.

Is there a way to simplify the Lightning migration?

Although the benefits of Salesforce Lightning seem intriguing, the migration aspect of it might sound like a daunting task. This is where we, as Salesforce's number one global strategic partner, can step in and aid you in unleashing the full potential of your Salesforce organization, with our Salesforce Lightning Migration Process. With this, you will know upfront what needs to be done in order to safely activate the lightning GUI and how much budget you will need to achieve this. You will have no surprises afterward.

How does this migration process work?

Step 1: The Accenture Salesforce Center of Excellence (SF CoE) will perform an initial assessment of your Salesforce organization and identify all the areas that you need to adjust for Lightning.

Step 2: Next the SF CoE will guide you through the assessment to select the obsolete items which don’t need changing together, to only focus on the relevant items and minimize the migration effort. Performing the assessment will take around one workday,- depending on the complexity of your Salesforce environment.

Step 3: Based on this information, the SF CoE will provide a quote to determine the budget required for the conversion of your specific Salesforce organization. A low complexity Salesforce organization will take up to one week of execution.

Step 4: Once you give the Go for the migration, the assessment will be free of charge. We will have you up and running with Salesforce Lightning in one to three weeks lead time, depending on the complexity of your Salesforce organization.

Step 5: You will have the possibility to test the GUI and the implemented changes on an acceptance sandbox and decide what date you would like to go live to your production organization.

What does our client say?

Recently, we aided our client Just Brands in migrating to Lightning. They then proceeded to reflect on the experience:

“Our consultants told us well in time that an upgrade to Lightning had to take place, in order for us to continue using Salesforce. Besides, the newly developed functions also required an upgrade to Lightning."

"We felt relieved that our contractors had carried out a check-in advance, to ensure that the upgrade to Lightning would go smoothly and that the migration process would not disturb our daily operations. The upgrade went well, although we encountered some challenges, which was inevitable. But, our consultants quickly identified and came up with proper solutions, and we were truly satisfied with the results."
