Accenture at the World Economic Forum 2016 in Kuala Lumpur

Addressing the need for the region to master the new digital economy at the ASEAN Regional Business Council Meeting

The World Economic Forum on ASEAN convened in Kuala Lumpur 1-2 June 2016 with the theme of "Shaping the ASEAN Agenda for Inclusion and Growth." A major focus of the agenda was ASEAN’s readiness to master the new digital economy and the role that technology can play in almost every challenge the region faces—from declining growth and social exclusion, to transparency and governance.

Accenture participated in discussions on how countries can nurture and transform the digital economy as digital infrastructure is built across ASEAN, particularly examining digital transformation from a consumer perspective. With the rise of ASEAN’s 100 million new consumers, it is expected that the region will add over US$770 billion in new spending, 60 million new consumers will be able to buy items beyond their subsistence for the first time, and 38 million people will move to higher-income tiers by 2020.
