Observability Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Observability Engineer with hands-on Dynatrace experience to enhance our client's monitoring and observability capabilities. This role focuses on implementing comprehensive SLO dashboard and pre-emptive monitoring strategies using the Dynatrace platform to ensure optimal application performance and user experience.
Key Responsibilities
Dynatrace Platform Configuration & Management
- Set up and manage Dynatrace Managed or SaaS environments
- Configure custom metrics, log ingestion, and synthetic monitoring
- Implement auto-discovery and tagging strategies for comprehensive visibility
- Manage Dynatrace extensions and custom plugins as needed
SLO Implementation & Management
- Work together with team lead to design and implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs) aligned with business requirements
- Configure SLO monitoring dashboards and error budgets
- Set up automated SLO reporting and trend analysis
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define meaningful SLIs (Service Level Indicators)
Application Performance Monitoring
- Configure application-specific monitoring for web applications, APIs, and microservices
- Set up database and infrastructure monitoring with performance baselines
- Implement user experience monitoring and real user monitoring (RUM)
- Configure synthetic transaction monitoring for critical business processes
- Analyze performance bottlenecks and provide optimization recommendations
Dashboards & Reporting
- Create executive and operational dashboards for different stakeholder groups
- Build custom reports for SLO compliance and performance trending
- Develop automated reporting workflows and scheduled deliveries
- Design role-based access and personalized dashboard views
- Implement data visualization best practices for observability metrics
Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
- Work closely with DevOps, SRE, and development teams to enhance observability practices
- Provide training and documentation on Dynatrace features and best practices
- Knowledge sharing to team members on observability concepts and tooling
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 1-2 years of hands-on experience with Dynatrace platform configuration and management
- Experience implementing SLOs and SLI frameworks
- Knowledge of APM concepts and monitoring best practices
- Experience with alerting strategies and incident management processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Dynatrace Associate or Professional certification
- [Optional] Experience with other observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, AppDynamics)
- [Optional] Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
- [Optional] Understanding of ITIL or SRE methodologies
- Experience with log management and analysis tools
- Knowledge of network monitoring and infrastructure management
- Previous consulting or client-facing experience
