I’m a graduate of public schools. I went to Brooklyn College. That’s what formed me.
When I look at Brooklyn College and the young people there, who are primarily first-generation, whose average family income is about $45,000, I know they are smart, capable and hard-working.
But what they don’t have is the aunt or uncle or father who is going to get them a summer internship at Goldman or Citi or any of these places. So we graduates who have achieved great success have to be their family.
We had a women’s leadership event for the students of Brooklyn College, bringing back some recent graduates as well as older graduates like myself to talk with them about the opportunities and what they could achieve and also, quite frankly, giving them the confidence to take on the world.
