IT Project manager

Riga

"Now I can say that I am IT Project Manager with both theoretical and practical project management knowledge in various tools and methodologies for developing and managing technology projects."

It all began with a mistake

I had big ambitions and was sure, in 2009, that I would study and emerge as an economist. But one mistake with the course name and I found myself studying E-business and logistic system management. I found myself in IT.

Following my first job in a start-up I moved to Fintech. I started as a business analyst, writing WEB, ERP and API technical specifications. When the company moved from Waterfall to Scrum all PM/Analysts became product owners and we managed all IT tasks from one country. I was able to look at both sides - support and development, learned to work in a new methodology, and collaborated with all sides of the business.

And then – Covid. I was able to transition to the biggest company in Latvia IT – Accenture. That is my latest chapter.

The future comes to those who are ready

Today, I am Project Delivery Manager for a local team of 12+ Data Science and Engineering developers working for a large retail company. They work, deliver, and participate now in 5 different projects. The team has worked with architecture, data engineering, data science, infrastructure, and visualization — and it is amazing. I was also Scrum master for two operations and development teams, and now continue to be an SM for the data catalog team and in the future will take a Service owner position in one more team to continue contributing and supporting as much as possible.

Of course, as a PM for Accenture Baltics, the main responsibilities are team engagement and maturity improvements, status reporting, SQA/SME open items and issues resolution, and project documentation. I also work with onboarding, metrics in green range, collaborating with internal/external team members for goal achievement in maintenance and development, and Scrum ceremonies running, using Agile and Kanban.

After initial struggles, we have it all! We have improved project team engagement twice, and have a perfect metric value in Talent, Scheduling, Delivery, and Operations.

Now I can say that I am IT Project Manager with both theoretical and practical project management knowledge in various tools and methodologies for developing and managing technology projects. While working in Accenture Baltics, I have been certified in software engineering, AWS, and Scrum. I continue to improve my knowledge by participating in a Mini MBA at Stockholm school and am preparing for PMP certification. I was promoted from team lead to associate manager in less than a year. And this is one of the biggest achievements. In IT you cannot stop, you should always be in training. And it is just a start.
