Summary:
To lead and execute the development, configuration, and maintenance of SmartPlant 2D design tools—specifically SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant P&ID, and SmartPlant Instrumentation—in adherence to project Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
The role is responsible for driving build activities across the SmartPlant 2D suite and ensuring seamless integration with SmartPlant Foundation to enable consistent data flow, high data integrity, and efficient multi-disciplinary engineering execution.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead SmartPlant 2D (SPEL, SPPID, SPI) build and configuration activities as per FDS
- Administer and support all modules across SmartPlant Electrical, P&ID, and Instrumentation tools
- Perform project setup, database configuration, templates, symbology, and report configuration
- Configure and manage user roles, access control, and system administration across tools
- Drive integration between SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) and 2D tools for publish/retrieve workflows
- Translate FDS requirements into tool configurations and data structures
- Manage SmartPlant worksharing environments and ensure multi-office data consistency
- Execute application and database upgrades, including pre- and post-upgrade activities
- Perform data validation, audits, and ensure consistency across engineering systems
- Customize reports (Cable Schedule, Load List, Loop Reports, PSR reports) using VBA/SQL
- Configure Import Manager / Import Utility and manage data linking and associations
- Support EDE view customization, symbols, templates, and reference database configuration (SPI)
- Liaise with SmartPlant administrators, DBAs, client teams, and vendors for solutions and enhancements
- Provide L2/L3 technical support, troubleshooting, and user training
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and project-specific design practices
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in: Smart Plant P&ID administration (project setup, reports, roles, configuration) Smart Plant Electrical administration (reports, access control, project configuration) Smart Plant Instrumentation administration (reference DB, reports, roles)
- Hands-on experience with: Installation, deployment, and environment setup of SmartPlant tools.
- SQL Server / Oracle database management and SQL query writing Report customization using VBA and SQL.
- Import Manager / Import Utility and data linking
- Experience in: Application and database upgrades (SPPID, SPEL, SPI) As-built and project model handling
- Troubleshooting tool and database issues Integration expertise with: SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) / SPO Cross-tool integration (SPPID, SPEL, SPI, SP3D)
- Strong understanding of: P&ID, Electrical, and Instrumentation design standards Engineering data structures and workflows
- Knowledge of international standards such as ISA, IEC, and IEEE
- Proven experience leading SmartPlant 2D suite implementation and configuration
- Strong understanding of EPC project lifecycle (FEED, Detailed Engineering, Execution)
- Ability to interpret Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and implement configurations
- Experience in managing multi-discipline engineering deliverables: P&IDs, Loop diagrams, Cable schedules, Load lists and SLDs
- Experience working in multi-user, multi-location project environments
- Strong QA/QC focus on engineering data and deliverables
Additional Information:
- The candidate should have minimum 8–12 years of hands-on experience in Smart Plant 2D tools (SPEL, SPPID, SPI)
- This position is based at our Hyderabad office.
- A 15 years full time education is required.
