Summary
As a Functional Test Engineer, your day-to-day focus is on ensuring the quality, reliability, and business readiness of applications through thorough functional/manual testing practices. You contribute to strengthening the quality engineering function by applying structured test planning, execution, and defect management processes. Your role emphasizes understanding business requirements, validating end to end functionality, and ensuring that testing outcomes align with project and stakeholder expectations across the testing lifecycle.
Roles & Responsibilities
-Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in functional testing and collaborate closely with the team to drive high-quality outcomes.
-Take ownership of team-level testing decisions and ensure consistent application of testing standards and best practices.
-Engage with multiple cross-functional teams (business analysts, developers, product owners) and contribute to key quality and release decisions.
-Analyze requirements and provide effective solutions to testing challenges for the immediate team and across projects.
-Lead efforts to identify and implement process improvements that enhance test coverage, defect detection, and overall testing effectiveness.
-Mentor and guide junior testers, helping them strengthen functional testing skills, domain understanding, and professional growth.
-Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure testing objectives are aligned with business and project goals, timelines, and quality expectations.
Professional & Technical Skills
Must-Have Skills
-Strong proficiency in Functional Test Planning, including test strategy, test plan, test approach, test scenarios, and test case design, Test exit reports.
-Hands-on experience in manual test execution for web and/or enterprise applications.
-Solid understanding of SDLC and STLC, with experience working in Waterfall/Agile/Scrum environments.
-Expertise in requirements analysis, identifying test conditions, and ensuring comprehensive functional coverage.
-Experience in defect identification, logging, tracking, and root cause analysis using test management and defect tracking tools.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a quality-first mindset.
-Ability to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and functional compliance across systems and integrations.
-Working knowledge of Databases, SQL/PL SQL, and Unix, including writing queries for data validation, understanding stored procedures, analyzing logs, and supporting functional testing activities.
Good-to-Have Skills
-Telecom Domain knowledge relevant to the application under test
-Experience in UAT support, business validations, and stakeholder sign-offs.
-Exposure to process audits, metrics tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives within QA teams.
-Exposure to SOAP Web Services and API services, with experience in validating request/response structures and functional behavior.
-Basic knowledge of shell scripting to support test data handling, batch job monitoring, and environment-level checks.
