Caitríona Lally is a professor in Bioengineering within the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Principal Investigator in the Trinity Centre for Bioengineering (TCBE) in Trinity College Dublin (TCD).
She is the principal investigator on a project focusing on developing a means of early diagnosis of degenerative cardiovascular diseases. These studies are highly relevant to stroke patients and those with vascular disease. To recognise this work, Professor Lally is holding a heart in the group portrait.
In 2015, Professor Lally was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) grant, one of the most prestigious grants in academia. The grant aims to fully explore the use of non-invasive imaging, such as Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging, for carotid artery disease diagnosis and tissue engineering.
