The role and its duties
The role focuses on acquisition, ingestion, curation, and integration of large-scale biological and biomedical resources, both publicly available and proprietary. This involves working as part of a broader team to;
- Identify differentiating ‘omics or clinical datasets aligned to our internal asset development and the needs of our clients
- Establish licensing and procurement requirements, liaising with legal teams where vital
- Work collaboratively with data engineers to meaningfully curate data based on prioritized use cases, underpinned by the FAIR principles
- Propose or define relevant data standards and identifiers for key entities to enable interoperability across data sets
- Ongoing profiling and review of existing data assets, providing feedback on data quality and value in R&D applications
- Act as a subject matter authority on R&D and Bio Innovation client engagements, providing domain expertise on use cases and data management
- Contribute towards internal data strategy, asset development, and thought leadership
Qualifications
What do you need?
A third-level degree or masters in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or similar
- Experience in scientific data management in life sciences, healthcare or agricultural settings
- Hands-on experience in use and curation of large-scale biological and biomedical datasets including taxonomies, ontologies, and study/experiment data
- Understanding of standard methodologies for master data, reference data and ontology management
- Strong interpersonal, team-working, and problem-solving skills, with an appreciation for detail
- Strong communication skills to be able to understand business needs and communicate to partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Ability to travel up to 50% as required
