I’ve been working for a Financial Services client for just under a year now and safe to say that no two days are ever the same. We have just started the FY17 year here in Accenture (Accenture fiscal year runs from September to August). The FS Autumn event was held last Thursday kicking off the year for us. In this blog I’m going to run through the day I had leading up to the exciting event.
My day started at 08:30am catching up on e-mails and reading the Accenture Ireland Financial Services News digest – a great way to keep current.
At 09:00am we have our daily project SCRUM meeting which helps set the context for the day ahead. There are 15 of us on the team so it is quite important that we have these daily catch ups to ensure we are all aligned in meeting client deliverables.
I’m then in a client workshop until lunchtime. My role in this workshop was to capture actions and key decisions required in order for the project to progress.
I go for lunch with a few of my colleagues on the project, all of us looking forward to the FS Autumn event later.
After lunch I wrote up the outcomes from the morning’s workshop and issued them to the project team and client. I then helped my manager with a couple of slides for a PowerPoint pack to be presented to our client next week. I think it’s great that the work I do makes it onto the “client’s lap”. One of the best things about working for Accenture is the immediate responsibility you receive and being able to see where you are adding value.
Before I knew it, it was 16:00pm, we made our way to the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, venue for the FS Autumn event. When we arrived we were greeted on a red carpet – the event theme was “Oscar/ Movie Awards” inspired. We grabbed a goodie bag and took our seats. Alastair Blair (Country Managing Director, Ireland) and Andrew Desmond (Head of Financial Services, Ireland) gave an update on how Accenture are doing here in Ireland and in Financial Services. This was followed by an update on projects happening across our Financial Services Clients and as the event was ‘Movie Awards’ themed, these updates were done in movie style, think Anchorman to Star Wars, using a green screen available at the Accenture offices. A really fun and creative way to keep the Audience engaged.
Last but not least, the special guest speaker Joe Schmidt (Irish Rugby Union Coach), was invited on stage. He drew on his personal experience on the importance of working as a team in achieving extraordinary outcomes - just like we do here in Accenture!
Food and drink followed the speakers. I got the chance to catch up with those in my start group are also working in FS. A great event all round and I’m already looking forward to the next Accenture event which no doubt is just around the corner.
