One Year On
By: Danielle Palmer

I joined Accenture Technology through the graduate programme in August 2016, after graduating from Maynooth University with a degree in Digital Media. I never imagined that I would end up in a Technology role after graduating with an arts degree. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how diverse the group of graduates in Accenture is, with Technology analysts coming from all areas, from media and economics to linguistics and law. Since joining, I have been lucky enough to work across a number of diverse teams and projects.

The diversity seen throughout the organisation is what makes Accenture such an incredible place to work. Inclusion and diversity is central to the Accenture culture and values, highlighting the unique strengths of every individual. It’s fantastic to belong to a company that cares so much about its people, ensuring that every person feels comfortable and at home, regardless of which office they are walking into. For me, this is seen most through the Women in Technology community and Mental Health programme, where the various teams are working towards gender equality within Technology and increasing awareness around the importance of Mental Health in the workplace.

I have been lucky enough to get involved in some of these teams since joining, working with the teams across Ireland, the UK, and South Africa. It has been incredible to have the opportunity to work on these initiatives, alongside my 9-5 role. In the past year, I have had to chance to work with the Inclusion & Diversity team, the Women in Technology team, and on the Mental Health programme as well as moving across multiple client projects in the Health & Public Sector.

Currently, I am working on client site as a software engineering analyst, reviewing and developing security initiatives for the client. Moving into this role was a challenge, as it wasn’t an area that I would have been comfortable in, but it has been incredible to develop new skills and capabilities in this field. I have been presented with the opportunity to grow every day since joining Accenture a year ago, and cannot wait to see what the next year holds in store.
