The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
By: Andrew Kelly

What are the best parts about working in Accenture? Well, there is a lot that can be said about the day job itself. The work is extremely interesting and you get the opportunity to work with some of the biggest companies in the world as clients, with the ability to progress through the company at a more-than-decent rate. This is probably what convinced me that Accenture was the right place for me in the first place. However for me, one thing that is a huge aspect of the work, and very tough to look past at this particular time of year is the social side of the company.

The social life in Accenture is always fantastic year-round, with plenty of events periodically throughout and an abundance of clubs and societies covering nearly any activity you could want to take part in. With a huge amount of young people of all different kinds of interests and backgrounds, there is never a time when you can't find something to do with colleagues. But it is the Christmas period especially when things come to life. There is a terrific atmosphere around the company and in my opinion, it's definitely one of the best times of the year to be in and around work.

The calendar becomes just slightly more packed with after work activities and social events are just that little bit fuller and more jovial. Four or five Christmas parties during the season is not uncommon for most people; whether it be a start-group, project, division or whole company Christmas party. Personally, there are about 5 Christmas Parties in my calendar for this unique time of year; with each one offering a great chance to catch up with the people I started here with, people on my project, those within Analytics/Digital (which is where I am aligned), or even just colleagues who have become friends along the way. So there is definitely no shortage of things to be doing and there is always a great night to be had. The highlight of this is likely to be the whole company Accenture Christmas Party which is a black tie event in the Convention Centre, definitely one of the biggest and best events in the calendar. However, each party offers its own unique opportunity to hang out with colleagues from all over the company and a great way to get to know a few more people in what is a massive – yet somehow very community-oriented – company.

While all of these events usually make work the next day a little more challenging, there tends to be just a bit more understanding this time of year… Long story short, the work in Accenture is fantastic and it is a great company to begin and continue a career with; I'm sure you will hear this from plenty of people – if not everybody – and it is true. But from my perspective, the social side of the company is one of the best parts of the job and not to be overlooked; which is why I am highlighting it. And at Christmas time this comes to the fore more than any other time of year, a time of year I look forward to from the moment it ends until it begins again.
