Meet our People: Marloes Koopman
August 5, 2020
I am working as a Sales Manager (Accenture term: Service Delivery Ops Specialist) for a client. I am responsible for the success of the DACH Market (Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
My team is responsible for selling advertisements on the client's platform. I make sure that the team is successful by supporting them in all possible ways I can; implementing ideas, strategies, improving their sales skills etc.
I don’t have a favourite or ‘most exciting’ as I believe every project has given me the opportunity to learn and develop myself. I started and developed within another client team, my first project within Accenture. I started as an agent on the BLX (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg) market team and worked my way up to become a team lead for several markets, spending several years within that project. I developed a lot of skills within this project and was exposed to different departments to develop myself.
After 4 years, I transitioned over to the project where I am currently working. While my previous project was very focused on customer service and meeting KPIs, my current project is mainly focused on sales and the ways of working are completely different. Since joining this project I have also progressed into a different role and am happy that I have had the opportunity to discover more about Accenture.
In both projects I have really enjoyed the international environment. It gives me an opportunity to learn about different cultures which provides me with ways to develop myself as well.
Accenture provides a lot of opportunities to their employees and it is not only limited to your ‘workplace’
Socialising! - Almost 25% of your week you are spending it at work. You might as well make the most of it and socialise with your colleagues. It is also important for your mental health!
Networking - To develop yourself it is very important to network with the wider Accenture family. Join one of the social networking clubs, attend training to meet new people and broaden your network. Stay in contact with them as well.
Your role - We shouldn’t forget that it is important to give your best during your role and complete the tasks that you have to do during your day in work. I focus on that as well - I learn(ed) a lot about different CRMs, strategies (eg. sales vs customer service) and myself of course. You’re never too old to learn!
I like the development opportunities within Accenture; Accenture is a global leader with many clients as well as different pillars to progress in, such as Technology, Operations, Strategy & Consulting and Interactive. There are a lot of possibilities at Accenture and a lot of options for you to develop. It is very important to have a great network within Accenture. Accenture provides a lot of opportunities to their employees and it is not only limited to your ‘workplace’. There are so many training opportunities you can follow or attend (eg. Toastmasters), communities you can join or socialise with other colleagues from different projects via the social clubs Accenture has active (eg. skiclub, football).
Motorcycling - within the speed limit of course!
I practice a lot of sports - weight lifting, cycling, walking
Travelling the world to discover new cultures and countries
Educating myself on different subjects of interest to me such as race, other cultures and countries, diets, self development etc.
Reading books, watching documentaries on Netflix.
Apply basic work ethics - be on time, work the hours you are expected to work etc.
Patience is key to success! - Progression takes time. You are not able to progress from one day to another. Inform your managers about your interests, work hard to develop yourself, be an outstanding performer in the work you are doing at the moment.
Be driven, innovative, open-minded and try to develop a skillset to be able to adapt to change very quickly. We are working in a fast-paced environment nowadays and change happens a lot.
Be passionate about your role, it doesn’t matter what role you are doing. You will learn new skills in anything you do.
