Week 4 - First Role
By: Declan Moran
Just a few days back from Chicago, and I've already been assigned my first role. The whole process seemed to go very quickly for me. One minute I was completing some training material, and the next I was called for an informal "interview" with a manager on my new project. I went to meet with him in Grand Canal Plaza, aka GCP (just a few minutes from Grand Canal Square [GCS]). There, he gave me a run down on the role and what was required of me.
The role is on the application support team for a seemingly complex system. Truthfully, I am not sure what to expect from it, as I have never worked with a system with so many interdependencies, however the manager is very kind and supportive of me. Needless to say, I cannot wait to begin work on Monday.
Several of my Start group have already been given roles, and some have already started. What started out as an already diverse group, in terms of our academic and professional backgrounds, has become even more diverse as we have found ourselves working in some very different industries. This is what I love about Accenture. Every day and every role is different, and you never know what will be around the next corner for you.
My new AMEX card and Priority Pass card have arrived in the post, having sent away for them just before I left for Chicago. It is really starting to feel like I'm part of Accenture now.
I also met up with my career counsellor for the first time this week. Everybody in the company is assigned one to help you manage your career within Accenture and to be an informal source of advice on anything that might be on your mind. It's a good feeling to have somebody there, external to your project, to help you out should anything come up.
