The One with the Great Support Network
By: Ronan Mac Devitt
I’m currently 11 months in to my Internship at Accenture and so far I’ve had a great time. I’m really enjoying the work I’m doing on client site, I’ve gotten involved in a number of the different clubs and met lots of great people. For me the people I’ve met have been one of the highlights of the internship and so many of them have helped me throughout the year.
When thinking about my time at Accenture one of the things that comes to mind is the theme tune from the television show Friends – “I’ll be there for you”. There’s never been a moment since I started the internship that I didn’t have at least three people to chat to, get help from or just ask some (often simple) questions.
Even before I had started, Accenture had set up a forum for all of the interns to put them in touch with each other along with some of the team in Accenture. It was great to get to know a few people before starting and it proved particularly invaluable for me as it helped me find a place to stay, something I’d really been struggling with.
As soon as I started, my network of people there to support me seemed to just grow and grow. I had a start group, a buddy (assigned to help me settle in) on client site, a career counsellor, the intern lead and the UAT intern coordinator. Knowing that so many people had my back and wanted to help me do my best really helped put me at ease about working in a completely new environment. Even some of the interns from previous years who returned with a graduate job were great at providing Clarity on anything I was unsure about.
As time went on I got to know each of them and as I now approach the end of my internship I would consider many of them good friends. I may not have spoken to these people every day (or sat around drinking coffee constantly) but they were always there when I needed them. They’ve given me some great support over the last few months and I hope that I can return the favour someday.
