Microsoft OneDrive for Business at Accenture
Secure file storage drives new ways of working in the New.
Accenture looks to harness change to create meaningful impact for our company and our people. To enhance the way our employees work, we combined our ingenuity with technology to equip more than 500,000 people with new ways of working.
One key capability we deployed was Microsoft OneDrive for Business, part of Microsoft 365. For us, the business case was compelling: OneDrive for Business offers secure file storage in the cloud, new usability and collaboration capabilities, cost savings in keeping laptop hard drives small, and even a way to reduce our environmental footprint.
Microsoft OneDrive for Business fits with several of Accenture’s IT strategic priorities—being cloud first, enhancing security, focusing on sustainability and empowering our people to work with leading capabilities. In addition, OneDrive offers seamless integration with Microsoft 365. Microsoft also demonstrated the proven ability to scale cloud storage to meet Accenture’s needs.
These reasons and the compelling benefit of moving files off laptops to secure cloud storage to help reduce the risk of data loss and data theft led Accenture’s global IT organization to deploy OneDrive company-wide.
To promote the adoption and acceleration of OneDrive, change management was critical. We developed a three-part plan:
We launched a strategic communications program that included videos, internal social media, blogs and adoption scorecards. Rather than mandating a company-wide change all at once, we chose to let employees adopt OneDrive when the time was right for them and learn more about OneDrive on their own.
Once our people were aware of OneDrive, the next step was to help them start using it and understand it, aided by several resources:
Once our people started to use OneDrive, the goal was to support them in continuing to use it through online training workshops and a technology support site. Information was easy to find, enabled individuals to expand their knowledge of OneDrive at their own pace and get help if issues arose.
Three years into our journey, more than 500,000 Accenture users are enabled for OneDrive for Business. Adoption at scale was a major undertaking and progressed steadily to get all employees on board.
A separate outcome of working with the Microsoft 365 product suite is the opportunity it presents to run Accenture’s business sustainably. Through central policies and product features, we can limit data growth and in turn minimize energy consumption from the hardware storing our data. As this data is stored in the cloud, we can rely on Microsoft’s commitment to using renewable energy and increased efficiency in the data center. This approach allows us to grow our business, be more productive and confirm that we can still meet our ambitious environmental commitments.
“OneDrive lets our people access their files via company-provided PCs and employee-owned tablets and mobile phones. This capability gives them options to work from anywhere from any device.“
