On my current project I am helping a Retail client move away from their legacy systems and migrate their store servers and databases onto the cloud. This will simplify store operations, facilitate remote access to their store software and improve their security and compliance standards. The solution is currently being rolled out in the pilot phase to a few stores initially before a mass rollout.
My role involves managing the early life support for the cloud application used by staff for store management, managing production incidents (issues which are reported by store attendants) and managing the deployment plan for the pilot stores (including server builds, database builds and smoke testing activities). I am also responsible for the change request process, which involves liaising with client stakeholders to deploy the application to additional pilot stores as well as the subsequent software updates.
The project would impact the client’s customers and staff, as the store experience would be improved. This is particularly rewarding as I would get to see the impact first-hand when I visit a store after the rollout is complete and this is one of the many reasons as to why I am keen on specialising in Retail consulting.
