What I do

I’m on the Business and Technology Degree Apprenticeship and my current role is as a Business Analyst. In summary, as a Business Analyst you have to find out what the business’ want and figure out how to deliver it to them.

One of my most recent roles was as a Business Change Analyst, which is slightly different to a Business Analyst. Essentially, my role on the project was to build a platform for engineers to be trained from. Normally, engineers would be trained through paperwork, but companies are moving beyond this, which meant that we needed to build a fresh platform, upload all the documents, making it easier for engineers to train.

A day in my life

As an Apprentice, Monday’s are the days that I attend University each week. I have two lectures to attend throughout the day with loads of time in between to get any work done.

A typical day for me from Tuesday to Friday involves joining my team meeting every morning first thing. In this meeting, each member will update the team on their progress of the work they are doing. This is usually followed by larger team meetings with the same purpose. Once my meetings are out the way, I’ll pick up any work that I was doing or needs doing. Throughout the day I’ll have calls with the client. The purpose of these meetings usually tends to be for me to find out more on what the client needs from us or for me to update them on the progress so far.

My advice

Some tips that I’d share to anyone who is thinking of joining this role are:

  1. Make sure you understand what you are getting yourself in to – the individual applying for this role needs to be able to balance work, be organised, and open minded. Accenture have so much to offer throughout this apprenticeship that you can take advantage of!
  2. Be prepared for the work – It can get pretty busy here at Accenture. You are treated just like any other employee, which is what is so amazing. You are not viewed as a learner or beginner; everyone wants to help you grow and understand.
  3. Do not be scared to ask questions – One thing I’ve learned since beginning here at Accenture is that questions are the one thing that will help you understand and prosper. It’s better to ask now than later!
