In Accenture’s Commercial Banking Practice, one of the biggest opportunities we see for our clients is Trade Finance; which continues to remain an attractive business for banks.  Global trade of goods has been growing at double-digit rates since the early 2000s, outpacing the growth in nominal world Gross Domestic Product.  However, the market is changing. 

Technological innovation in the form of digitization of channels and products, switches in corporate behaviour and expectations, regulatory changes and increasing market competition are fundamentally changing the trade finance market space. If banks are to remain competitive, they will need to step up, innovating their trade finance client offerings and investing in their people, process and technology capabilities – such as Blockchain.

What responsibilities will you have?

Most Managers spend the majority of their time working on client sites leading projects of change and delivery with our banking clients. There is an expectation of personal development responsibilities as well as practice building. Projects vary in size and duration but you will need to run a project as well as the team around you, stakeholders and senior client leadership.

Managers in Commercial Banking will be responsible for:

  • Applying banking industry and technology expertise to advise, change, transform and deliver outcomes that enable our clients to become high performing businesses
  • Actively contributing to our community and clients as practitioners, who can think logically, tackle problems and engage others
  • Management of streams of work – with a particular focus on shaping solutions and coordinating work across multiple streams, ensuring a sensible, workable outcome
  • Alignment of change delivery across both business and IT teams to ensure successful designs, solutions or implementations
  • Advising on how agile methods of working benefit clients in their transformational journey and the speed with which they deliver change
  • Managing medium-sized teams (of 6 – 20 people) whilst mentoring and encouraging professional growth of members of the team
  • Articulating key messages, risks and issues to senior management and client partners
  • Creation of deliverables and tangible outputs, including roadmaps and plans, approach and framework documents, and reports

skills & experience are we looking for?

It’s an exciting time to be working in Commercial Banking just now, with the industry going through a rapid transformation with new entrants providing the traditional players with threats but also opportunities to transform the way they do business. It’s important that our Managers understand the domain that they are operating in so that they can use industry trends as well as their own ideas to provide innovative solutions to client problems.

Each new project brings a fresh set of challenges, so we need dynamic people to join the team and challenge existing norms offering their own perspectives to create more innovative solutions for our clients. We require Managers who can excel in a combination of the listed areas:

  • Strong industry skills in Trade Finance plus, ideally, perspective on what the future of Trade will bring, including blockchain for trade/ supply chain finance.
  • Strong, demonstrable industry-obtained skills working in a Trade Finance environment.
  • Solid Trade Finance experience including:  Letters of Credit; Receivables Finance; Guarantees; Forfaiting; Supply Chain Finance; Commodities & Structured Finance.
  • General commercial banking experience is also desirable – e.g. onboarding/ account opening.
  • Have a point of view on key trends within banking such as Blockchain; Artificial Intelligence or Workforce of the Future.
  • Experience of digital delivery and how it is transforming the way banking clients engage with their customers.
  • Depth of experience of delivering change projects within banking, including launching new lending products or services; customer service launch or platform management.
  • A strong professional presence and clear proven problem solving, negotiation, consultation and influencing skills,
  • An ability to thrive in a team environment and develop deep and ensuring client relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

What academic qualifications do you need?

  • Bachelor's Degree (Technical/Engineering/Computer science degree is preferred) 2:1 or international equivalent
