The Trading & Risk Management practice is a part of Accenture's successful Resources business which has grown significantly over the past year and remains on a strong growth trajectory. We are a community of over 70 professionals with deep industry subject matter expertise and proven delivery experience, with a further 400 colleagues from our Chemicals, Natural Resources, Energy, Utilities and Technology growth platforms supporting execution on our projects. We are led by an experienced senior management team and as a practice we have a strong focus on mentoring and training. Supported by Accenture's global research group we develop client-relevant thought leadership and we are arranged internally into capability development communities.


Job Description


Through our Account teams, we play a critical role in helping Accenture's clients become high performing Commodities and Energy Trading businesses.  We have developed trusted relationships with senior management within the Business and Technology from the Front Office and back through the key operational, support and control functions. We have a wide breadth of clients and our Account management teams are led by people with extensive knowledge of our clients' business and operational goals and concerns.


Required Skills


  • Individuals will have experience of working within a commodity trading environment with an understanding of the physical and financial markets in gas, power, LNG, oil, refined products, coal, concentrates and metals
  • They should be either from an industry (energy or commodity trading) or a consulting background
  • They should have some experience project / programme management, and/or of implementing IT solutions and / or redesigning processes, in some of the following areas: origination, pricing, logistics operations, settlements, trade processing, position management, asset optimization, risk management and finance
  • Understand full life-cycle IT implementation coupled with a strong understanding of the inherent business challenges and processes within those areas
  • Manager level recruits are expected to have played a major role in the of a project/programme in the areas described above, e.g. a design lead, business or technology architect, etc.
  • Ability to work with senior clients and propose creative solutions to commodity trading business problems
  • Well-developed analytical skills including ability to work with poorly defined problems, provide clarity to complex issues or situations and synthesise large amounts of information and highlight salient points
  • We expect experienced hires to be excited about joining the practice and give details of practice building activities that they have completed in their previous roles displaying leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment with excellent client relationship/interpersonal skill, strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong professional presence. This should include excellent written (structured documents, presentations) and verbal communication skills, for example, facilitation of meetings, presentation of materials)
  • From a functional perspective, individuals will likely have experience of working within one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Regulation - EMIR, REMIT, Dodd Frank, MiFID etc.
    • Risk management and Demand / Supply balancing - cross commodity risk management, analytics, market and credit risk
    • Trade processing - from trade capture to downstream routing (clearing, settlement, confirmation, operations and logistics, hedge accounting, etc). Understand trade flows and data captured to support trade processing
    • Operations experience – scheduling, inventory management and settlements
    • Derivatives experience - Derivatives product knowledge (especially Energy, Metals and FX derivatives)
    • Legal entity / trade migrations - understanding implications of moving assets across legal entities, processing of back to back trades, trades processing, market risk calculations and some finance background
    • Specific experience of Openlink or other TLM software packages 

Key Responsibilities


1. Delivery Within Energy and Commodity Change Projects

  • Working within project teams to support clients deliver their project objectives
  • Working with a team to define a business solution that may include defining business architecture, process design and delivery activities whilst driving the development of improved capabilities.
  • Executing business analyst and / or project management activities such as gap analysis, requirements gathering / definition, functional specifications, risk/issue management, project planning etc.
  • Facilitating teams and supporting workshops / meetings across multiple phases of the project delivery lifecycle
  • Working within multidisciplinary teams across both business and technology to execute project deliverables

2. Working Alongside Clients and Building Trusted Relationships

  • Be able to demonstrate credibility to work alongside/with client SME’s and team leaders.
  • Developing trusted relationships with clients, target clients and internal experts as part of project delivery.
  • Understanding and representing Accenture’s Energy and Commodities Trading capabilities with clients and acting as a trusted partner.
  • Helping to build an understanding of our clients’ business and challenges and participating in identifying solutions for their business needs within the Accenture Trading & Risk Management team.
  • Working with blended client and Accenture project teams and helping to establish working relationship within a team environment.

3. Supporting Creation and Shaping of Sales Opportunities

  • Supporting the Accenture executives in the development of business opportunities that are aligned with client agendas and creating value driven sales propositions for Accenture’s key clients.
  • Helping to develop compelling business cases and responses to new business opportunities and requests for proposals within proposal response teams.
  • Participating in opportunity development campaigns that build upon Accenture’s delivery capabilities as part of the Trading & Risk Management team.

4. Building Part of Accenture’s Energy Trading Capability

  • Supporting the creation of “Thought Leadership” assets and participating in Communities of Practice within Accenture as part of specialist teams that meet specific client challenges.
  • Support the building of Accenture’s Trading & Risk Management practice through people development and mentoring of more junior team members.
  • Helping to build Accenture assets and accelerators that can be used to enhance practice offerings.

  • Supported our clients through the changing regulatory landscape, analysing the expected impact of OTC derivative reform and supporting the management of their change agenda to fulfil their obligations
  • Led the entry of several of our clients' into Emerging Markets in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe
  • Set-up trading functions for several clients in Europe and the Middle East
  • Established a governance structure and project management best practices across the portfolio of large-scale change initiatives for a commodities trader
  • Analysed trading software offerings and provided support for project management, vendor analysis and package upgrades
  • Provided technical support, solution design and testing support and management for projects across the Front and Back office
  • Developed new process control frameworks to enhance operational effectiveness for an energy trader
  • Mobilised large-scale managed service and outsourcing arrangements to establish key IT delivery capabilities offshore for energy and commodities trading clients
