At Accenture, we understand the importance of taking responsibility for the way that our company affects the environment and how it has an impact on social welfare.


We understand that we are part of a world beyond our business. At both a global and local level, our corporate citizenship efforts are focused on building ‘Skills to Succeed’. This involves taking the same skills we use to benefit our clients, and applying them in communities that need them the most.

In the UK, our focus is on environmental sustainability and social sustainability in the form of our Skills to Succeed initiative aimed at helping to address youth unemployment. We want to bring positive change to the communities where we live and work. I am deeply proud of the enthusiasm and commitment I see from our people as they use their time, skills and experience to bring our citizenship ambitions to life every day.

CSR Achievements

We are proud of all our work, but our achievements in corporate and social responsibility bring with them exceptional rewards. Of course, every company probably says the same. We believe that actions speak louder, so here are just a few facts and figures to show just what an impact we are making:

  • Between 2011 and 2015 we contributed more than $300 million to support our corporate citizenship efforts.
  • We’ve equipped over 1.2 million people with the skills to get a job or start their own business and have set a new goal of equipping 3 million by 2020.
  • For 9 consecutive years Accenture has been recognised among Ethiphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies.
  • In 2015 we reduced our per employee carbon emissions by more than 47% against our 2007 baseline.

Do Your Part (Getting Involved With CSR)

We encourage all our people to get involved in activities to help the world around them. As well as making a positive impact, they develop enhanced professional skills. In Accenture, 95% of people say that pride and motivation at work was enhanced as a result of helping others.

When you join us, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved, from volunteering and doing charity work (we give all of our people three days to volunteer per year) to taking part in pro-bono activities. How you choose to show your support is up to you, but we’ll support you to make the most of the opportunity.

Voluntary Services Overseas

Our close relationship with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) gives you the opportunity to assist communities in the developing world, via a financially assisted career break. You can get involved in VSO projects from the minute you join Accenture – how, exactly, you do this is down to you. As a business, we are right behind Paul every step of the way.


Accenture Development Partnerships (ADP) provides another way for our people to give back. This pioneering “corporate social enterprise” employs a not-for-profit business model that makes our core skills and assets accessible to the international development sector. Its goal is to help strengthen organisations and build growth markets from within.

Accenture Development Partnerships makes our world-class management and technology consulting services available to the development sector on a non-profit basis. Accenture Development Partnerships is at the forefront of our business in emerging economies. It is a prime example of our work and behaviours in practice – using our skills to improve the way the world lives and works.

From helping companies to establish social development projects in emerging markets through to sharing our expertise in Organisational Strengthening, Program Innovation & Delivery and Partnership Services – our mission is to have a significant and lasting impact on global development challenges. By giving development sector organisations access to our people, knowledge, assets and global network, plus our advanced market-based solutions, and by fostering collaboration and partnerships between public, private and non-profit sectors, we are getting closer to achieving this mission every working day.

CARE Bangladesh’s Rural Sales Programme

Employment opportunities for women living in rural Bangladesh areas are limited. What’s more, these rural communities often don’t have easy access to basic personal hygiene and nutritional food products. At the same time, these communities represent a growing untapped market for retailers who sell these essential products.

To help address these issues, CARE and Danone Communities got together with Accenture Development Partnerships to help transform CARE’s established rural sales programme into a more commercially viable social business that would help create employment for thousands of rural women.

We set out to rapidly upscale the current operations of 80 distribution hubs to 400 hubs, thereby helping to increase the number of rural sales people six-fold and creating meaningful employment for over 12,000 women. Accenture helped to design and implement an operating model that would help support rapid expansion, as well as designing the governance structures to support the model and defining the supply chain.

The results have been exceptional. Private sector partners have been able to expand market coverage into rural areas, whilst at the same time providing the rural poor with important income, generating opportunities and advancing important development outcomes such as gender equality and sustainable livelihood creation.

Movement To Work

Prince’s Trust, placements and perfect skills

Movement to Work is a nationwide movement of employers committed to taking action on youth unemployment. We’re proud to be working alongside other leading employers and the charity The Prince’s Trust, to create four-week vocational training and work experience placements for people aged 18-24, who are not in education, employment or training.

Our programmes “Go Digital” and “Go Tech” also match Analysts as buddies for each young person and have already helped participants get Apprenticeships and jobs with us, or roles in other organisations. It’s all part of our wider Skills to Succeed programme and commitment to equip three million people globally with the skills to get a job or build a business by 2020.
