Hello! My name is Una Kunhya and I’ll be telling you all about my first month at Accenture.
I am currently on the six month, rotational Marketing and Communications Graduate Internship scheme. I am placed within the Marketing and Communications team which helps build Accenture’s brand, protect its reputation, generate awareness of the company’s capabilities and services, and plays an integral role in supporting sales growth.
For my first rotation, I have been placed in the marketing team for Accenture’s ‘Communications, Media and Technology’ (CMT) business offering. I am not going to lie, I had no idea what that team entailed when I first started but in simple terms I work supporting the Telecommunications & Media Entertainment industries/clients. When I first began, I had hit an extremely busy month with two large scale Telecommunications events taking place within weeks of each other. I sat in on multiple Skype calls to bring these events to life with colleagues from all over the globe. Until working at Accenture, I had never had the chance to work with so many people based abroad such as Italy, India, France, America & UK. But immediately that is what I was doing and still do on a daily basis! I’ve learnt communication is key at Accenture because on these weekly calls we would discuss everything, from which Senior Manager would be speaking, to the colour of the carpet! At the events, I helped present one of Accenture’s offerings, the Vuzix Smart Glasses, to many senior telecommunications executives. Not bad for someone who was clueless about the industry two weeks prior. I even filmed with Telecom TV demonstrating the uses of the glasses soon be shown on Accenture.com.
Marketing & Communications is not just all about events. One of the things I have enjoyed the most so far is developing strategies to build relationships with major clients. It encompasses a lot of research around the client, talking to the various teams across Accenture and building reports but it is worth it when you see a plan come together. Outside my role, I have gotten involved in a lot of things at Accenture. I have participated in a photoshoot for an Accenture Technology Campaign, become a Mental Health Ally, helped organise the Christmas party, and assisted on multiple events such as a Recruitment evening and Financial Services alumni event!
I am off to the Sponsorship team soon who are responsible for managing Accenture’s hospitality programme and Accenture’s relationships with some of the UK’s leading arts, cultural and sporting organisations, including the RBS 6 Nations. Better go brush-up on my rugby knowledge!
