The decision to work in Salesforce was really carved-out through my first job after graduating, when I joined a small company that largely specialised in Salesforce implementations. Then, at around the same time of me starting there, the company was acquired by Accenture, so I found myself working in our Salesforce Business Group and it’s turned out to be great.
I was lucky to be one of the early adopters of Einstein within the practice and on one of the first projects we did in that space, so I’m probably considered one of the experts in that domain. I’ve not worked on an Einstein project for a little while now but I’m still on the Einstein team within the practice where my activities have ranged from building demos for proposals to speaking at the Salesforce World Tour. For me, having the chance to work with Einstein was fantastic as it’s a real crowd-pleaser for the client. It’s a data analytics programme that’s quite easy for users to get to grips with and, it’s visually entertaining with nice animations and graphics - it just looks good! And when you bring customers their own data in a new way that they’ve not seen it before, that’s quite exciting.
I’m enjoying my current project too which is more focussed on service cloud so, more bread and butter Salesforce. The client is forward-thinking and we’re delivering them some nice solutions with Lightning which they seem to be very pleased with – and working with Lightning has been fun!
At Accenture, you will get to work on mass transformational projects that are bigger and more complex than you may experience elsewhere. There are a lot of people here to learn from and having the ability to operate on a completely global scale across many technologies is quite unique and enables us to pull-in experts from anywhere in the world to solve bits of a project.
In terms of my career goals, my focus is to become a CTA on Salesforce. We have a programme within the Salesforce Business Group called CTA Elevate and, as you get closer to taking the final exams, you get opportunities to go on a course where current CTAs coach you to help you do your best at that gruelling review board.
A big part of working here is taking ownership for your own development and there are lots of opportunities to do this. It’s easy to let these opportunities pass you by, but I think you must be actively engaged to take them and to learn new things - it can be a key differentiator for your own progress.
For example, a couple of years ago the EALA (Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America) Technology Leadership invited some of us from across the region to go to their annual leadership meeting in Dublin and give a young person’s view of the company. Since then a small group of us (from different countries and specialising in different technologies) have been working on a ‘side-of-desk’ programme looking at how we can build-on our innovation within EALA technology. We’ve been having bi-weekly calls and then all met-up in Germany at the start of this year for a workshop to work through some of our ideas. We’re shortly going to pitch our idea back to the leadership team and then we should be able to progress with the pilot.
That’s one of the nice things about Accenture - despite its size, it doesn’t feel hierarchical. You can reach out to anyone at any level and they’ll be sure to help you out... in fact I’ve just got back from a two-week holiday in Argentina where I visited my former career counsellor!
