How will ethics influence the future of technology?
By: Emma McGuigan
This is the first article in a series that looks at the continued impact technology will have on our lives over the coming years. Distilled into three key themes, this series will explore the influence of ethics in technology, the future workforce and that little thing that brings it all together, intelligent automation.
Watch the videos and read more detail in the articles below to hear thought-provoking, well-informed perspectives from the people who are shaping the future of technology.
We hope that this series provides insight and direction for those preparing for, or undergoing, digital transformation to take their business to the next level.
The first video in the series discussed how ethics will influence the future of technology. In the digital age, analysing and acting on insights from data can introduce entirely new classes of risk. These include unethical or even illegal use of insights, amplifying biases that exacerbate issues of social and economic justice, and using data for purposes to which its original disclosers would not have agreed, and without their consent. These and other practices can permanently damage consumer trust in a brand.
