Delivering that ‘wow’ moment for our clients
By: Rachel Stone

I joined Accenture in 2015 on the Marketing and Communications Graduate Internship Programme. Throughout my internship I worked with the marketing team for Accenture Technology, but was lucky to also get some cross-exposure for marketing activity on Accenture Interactive too. This enabled me to understand how marketing programmes differ across business areas. It was definitely an interesting year and I learnt a lot from everyone on the team but also from my ‘buddy’ who was assigned to me for the duration of the internship. They helped me navigate Accenture and reassured me that no question was a silly question!

At the end of my internship a role came up in the Client Marketing team (we now call this Account Based Marketing), I applied for that and I’ve been here ever since. I’m now an Associate Manager developing marketing programmes for some of our key clients. For me, the most exciting projects are those personalised, creative campaigns that help to build and strengthen client relationships. It’s a great feeling when we deliver something for a client that’s bespoke and can provide that ‘wow’ moment.

My role has evolved hugely and that’s partly because I’ve grown and developed my skills and experience but also because the team has moved on massively. If I look back to when I started, we were a small UK team. Now, we’re a European team, part of a global community, growing all the time and getting industry recognition for best practice. It’s a really exciting place to be and I feel very proud to have played a part in that evolution. From a learning and development perspective, I’ve been really lucky and have been able to attend external conferences where I’ve had the opportunity to understand the industry and see how other companies work in this space too. And, just the fact that you work in a large organisation with lots of very different people means you get to learn and absorb so much from a wide mix of colleagues as well.

One of the best things about Accenture is its people culture – you’ll always find people who are ready to help you and Accenture places enormous value on mentoring. Every person at Accenture is assigned a people lead: a designated, more experienced person who provides career coaching and guidance to help them manage their careers and develop professionally. I’ve always received valuable guidance from my people lead, and I’m now a people lead to two people and am sharing the advice I received in the past.

I also really like the flexible working practices here - even before Covid-19, I often worked from home two days a week which allowed me to pursue my hobbies outside of work. I’m a keen runner and I enjoy horse riding, having ridden competitively before university, and I’ll go to the yard to visit my horse or go out for a run in the morning before work. It’s challenging to fit everything in if you have to commute five days a week, so I’m grateful I’m given that autonomy.

My role has evolved so much over the past few years and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to develop my skills while working with an amazing team. Every day I have the chance to learn from people with different specialisms, hear different perspectives and experience new ways of working.
