MY ACCENTURE CAREER

I applied to the HR internship at Accenture because I wanted to gain experience working at a global corporate company. When I was researching Accenture, it seemed like a forward thinking company with a great working environment. Prior to the internship I had never worked in a corporate firm before, so I was a bit apprehensive that I would be out of place. However, my line manager and team were very welcoming and supportive.

The great thing about the internship is that you get given real responsibility. I’ve been able to work on a project focused on developing a strategy for the school leaver market to ensure Accenture is attracting the best young talent. This involved conducting competitor research, interviews, meeting with stakeholders and working with the marketing team to discuss the feasibility of my ideas and proposal. The most rewarding thing has been seeing the recommendations I made put into action. I’ve also had the opportunity to join global conference calls, working with a global team to look at the data we have on the quality of our hires. I’ve really enjoyed speaking to Senior Managers and learning about their experiences and career journeys.

As a result of the internship my presentation skills have definitely improved and I have learnt to work with stakeholders across the business. Through attending various external conferences, I’ve met people across the recruitment and HR industry and I have become more confident in networking situations. My advice would be to take every opportunity you get. As the internship is only eight weeks, it goes by very quickly and this means that you need to be prepared to speak up, offer your opinions and put yourself out there.”
