The unofficial national sport
By: Kalle

We are living exciting times here in India. The 2016 ICC World Twenty20 is being held in India and India's national team is playing in the semi-final game against West Indies (I don't think that is a real country). If the term twenty twenty doesn't ring a bell, you should get more familiar with the wonderful sport of cricket.

Cricket Picture of Cricket from Wikipedia.com

Cricket is a ball game similar to baseball or Finnish "pesäpallo". One player hits a ball with a wooden bat and the players of opposite team try to catch the ball. Goal of the game is to hit the ball as far as possible and run back and forth while the other team is retrieving the ball. OK there is much more in the game but I think that is a decent summary.

During this tournament cricket is everywhere. Newspapers are filled with it. TV is showing it all the time. Bars and restaurants are filled with loud cricket fans. Young kids are playing it on the streets. Even an elephant at the local circus had its own cricket show. Google's logo is naturally on top of things as well.

Unfortunately India lost the game against West Indies (apparently it's an alliance of many small islands) during the time it took me to write this post. The Twenty20 tournament is therefore over but no worries, ICC Intercontinental Cup and ICC World Cricket League Championship are still coming up.
