Delivering world-class data management and business intelligence
The client is a public electric utility company, wholly-owned by a major utility energy group in China. With power generation as its core business, it also provides comprehensive energy-related services including new energy, electricity-related services, and sustainable development solutions.
The company launched an ambitious transformation program to establish itself as a leading energy enterprise, and recognized the need to develop world-class data-management and business intelligence capabilities to accurately forecast energy demands and optimize operations.
The company also needed to address several key challenges, including:
An existing decentralized system architecture that made comprehensive analysis difficult.
Reports not aligned to the long-term strategy of the business.
Reporting tools based on different platforms and not customized or supported by mobile devices.
The company worked with Accenture to identify, build and deploy a solution to help process and integrate 10 years’ worth of structured and non-structured data and also conduct comprehensive analyses and forecasting. Accenture recommended SAP HANA as the platform best suited for the company’s needs.
In Phase one, Accenture applied Accenture Delivery Methods and developed a set of system configuration and customized development methodologies to guide the team through the entire development process—from planning, analyzing, designing, developing, and testing to configuring and deploying the solution.
THE COMPANY MADE USE OF ACCENTURE'S:
Industry and implementation experience
Expertise in business design and theme design, SAP HANA modeling, SAP Business Objects presentation, and Fiori App development to guide the technical implementation
Agile Development Methodology to provide high-quality delivery in a short timeframe
SAP HANA Center of Excellence proprietary assets to develop SAP HANA models and a Fiori App demo
Fully-charged business intelligence
The project has provided the company with enhanced IT management, operational processes, and decision-making capabilities through an enterprise-level data warehouse and business intelligence solution. With the new SAP HANA platform, the company is benefitting from:
A simpler system architecture
A localized user interface runtime library five times faster than the online library
Additionally, because SAP HANA uses virtual cube instead of traditional data modelling, the company can make full use of its existing hardware to improve application performance, reduce the cost of ownership, and enable new scenarios and applications. From the convenience of a mobile device, executives can now generate reports from across the company’s operations and obtain key details using several years of comparative data as benchmarks
The company can now develop new and more accurate electricity power generation forecast models. In the future, the company will be able to take advantage of big data mining and additional forecasting capabilities. Together, these capabilities will make it possible for the company to pursue its transformation agenda with greater speed and confidence.
