How I put change in motion

The work that I do as Application Development Associate Manager is about enabling our clients to maintain and grow their business by working on their underlying IT systems. Sometimes, this means modifying Mainframe software as old as myself. At other times, this means building new software using new technology. However, the end goal is always to help our clients bring value to their end-customers.

The most exciting project that I have worked on was a project to modernize the technical setup used to develop and operate Mainframe software at the client. This meant giving the developers a modern development environment, introducing proper source code management, and automating various tasks. What made this so exciting to me was that it was a challenging project where I got to use new technology to improve legacy technology.

A day in my life

During a typical day at Accenture, I will attend a few meetings to discuss challenges and solutions with the business side of the client. Here, we discuss the technical design of software that I am working on and simply follow up on the progress and challenges of the tasks that my colleagues and I are working on. Most of my time, however, will be spent on developing new software to be delivered to the client. Finally, I try to dedicate the last part of my work day to either learning something new or finding innovative ways of solving problems that I encounter in my day-to-day work.

What I like most about working at Accenture is the people that I get to work with. These people are highly qualified, and everyone brings a lot of energy and positive attitude to work which results in work days being both fun, productive, and with lots of learning experiences.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, cooking, and playing computer games. Also, I love spending time with my family and close friends whether chatting over a good dinner or playing board games.

My advice

I would encourage anyone interested in the type of work that I do to stay curious about new technology, and to get hands-on experience whenever possible, and to not be afraid of suggesting to apply these new opportunities in whatever they do.
