How I put change in motion

As a Cloud Transformation and Migration Analyst, I am currently working on a few carve-out projects, where we are carving out a branch of an existing enterprise and merging it into a different enterprise. Accenture’s role is both planning the carve-out and handling it entirely: from the IT-separation, the existing way of life, defining the change of processes, and how we undergo them, to the delivery and maintenance of new software and hardware to support the IT-strategy. Currently, we are integrating the new ERP system, as well as helping the client undergo the changes in processes and the installment of new devices to support their new governance strategy. During all of this, I am both on-site with the client to help them with ongoing maintenance issues, changes in scope, re-evaluation in governance, and so forth, but I am also working with remote teams to realize client demands and plan set changes and support issues.

The most exciting project I have worked on is my former project that lasted about a year – which accounts for most of my time here in Accenture. I was working as site manager during one of these big carve-out projects and was therefore responsible for the client relationship during the process of elaborating the migration process and was also a part of the negotiation process and definition of both client needs, and risks associated with it. During the actual migration process of the Danish sites, I had clear responsibility with five external engineers working alongside me to optimize process flows and broaden potential bottlenecks.

Migration is months of hard work concluding, and seeing the entire process unfold and come to life is quite fascinating.

A day in my life

The daily life at Accenture for me involves a lot of team meetings with people from all over the world. I was hired during the peak of the Corona pandemic and have therefore gotten used to interacting digitally with colleagues. On my projects, I am working closely together with Accenture Austria, Germany, and India, and with clients from all over the world, such as Brazil, France, and The States. This means that I get to challenge my language skills and English in all kinds of dialects. This is also why Duolingo has become one of my favorite apps since starting in Accenture! I feel that clients and colleagues really appreciate it if you make the effort and in my experience, knowing a sentence or two in their mother tongue can boost the relationship and the overall vibe on a day-to-day basis. Teams’ meetings can get a little stale, so knowing how to make the best of it and spicing it up is essential for making home-office days feel different. Luckily, I am also often at client sites where I get to work more closely with them.

During my spare time, I like to exercise a lot – especially after long days in the office it is crucial for me. I do boxing, jogging, biking, and hit the gym regularly. Other than that, I am really into E-Sports. I watch CS: GO tournaments and occasionally partake in them when possible – as a viewer and not a player. Even though I do believe it would be fun to play, I am nowhere near good enough for that kind of level. Maybe someday – the sky is the limit here in Accenture, right?

What I like most about Accenture is probably the experience of getting to work with people and clients from parts of the world who I would never otherwise have worked with. As part of my projects and role as a Site Manager, I also get to travel and work with clients during the migration processes, which allows me to experience parts of the world I would otherwise never have seen. Last year, I had some hectic months of traveling back and forth to France, Italy, and Spain during the migration of several Natural Color factories. But meeting the client and interacting with them on a more personal level, getting a tour, experiencing how colors are derived from organic material, and seeing the results of one’s hard work come to life really is the thing I like the most.

My advice

I think my advice for someone interested in this line of work is just to go for it! Accenture offers so many different possibilities and encourages everyone to develop themselves both through internal learning courses but also by acquiring certificates. There is surely going to be a fit of projects where your talents can be put to some good use, and you can acquire some interesting experiences. Don’t worry about it.
