About the Role
We are opening a new position for a Research Senior Analyst. This role is based in Shanghai and will report to a research manager.
You will join a small inter-disciplinary global team of corporate strategists and researchers responsible for shaping the cross-industry narrative that underpins the next phase of growth for Accenture. Our work focuses on how disruptive innovation is re-shaping the business environment, and the innovation strategies that companies will need to adopt in response. Our research is data-driven, and leverages new statistical techniques and machine learning to develop ground-breaking insights. Our work is overseen by Accenture’s Chief Strategy Officer, and is published in leading journals, including Harvard Business Review, MIT-Sloan Management Review, and The European Business Review, to name a few.
You will carry out primary and secondary research activities in support of our portfolio of research and thought leadership initiatives. You will help drive our end-to-end research process, including idea-generation, thematic concept development, expert interviews, analytical examination and co-authoring of published reports. You will communicate our research findings and insights to internal clients (senior leadership) and external clients (via our Consulting workforce), and will be expected to build and maintain relationships with external thought leaders at meeting and industry events.
Successful research is not a back-office activity; it requires people who not only have strong research skills but who also have a client-focused mentality and an outgoing and confident personal style. Successful researchers build deep relationships with their peers and senior executives in the practice and work as a team, sometimes responding to requests and sometimes proposing (and selling) research ideas.
We are looking for someone who has the following core skill sets:
l Research skills: able to take an issue and turn it into a researchable question; able to scope the research effort and cost it accurately; able to use most (but not necessarily all) research techniques such as secondary database searching, company analysis, market analysis, strategic analysis frameworks, interview-based research and financial analysis. Researchers must also be detail-oriented and follow quality assurance procedures.
l Analytical ability: we want researchers who can draw out the implications of the research they do and tell a compelling, business-focused story about the data that is relevant to Accenture’s business and clients. We are looking for insight, not just information.
l Teaming and communication skills: our team will be very much a virtual one and you will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work with colleagues from different cultures and in different locations across the world. Experience of work on the telephone or in a remote team would be highly advantageous. You must be able to work in PowerPoint and create well-structured, clearly written presentations with graphs and charts where necessary.
l Ability to quickly establish credibility: many of our customers are senior-level leaders within the company and it is vital that we are able to establish both our expertise and our professionalism. Researchers should be polished and confident, without being arrogant, and able to clearly and concisely articulate a point of view. Researchers should be able to present their research findings to customers, and defend their insights. Should have the ability to work independently and with limited supervision on a day to day basis
