Splitting two companies

Major global brands rely on this tech company to create platforms mining data and gain insights into customer behaviour. Their actionable insights are fed into the marketing efforts of companies around the world to fuel innovation and growth. The company had two distinct business units: one focused on security and the other on customer insight. When they decided to spin off into two units, the customer insight organization chose Accenture to help. A major component of the separation featured an Oracle E-Business Suite migration to cloud. Accenture’s deep experience in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) was one of the reasons the company was motivated to choose Accenture. Both companies felt OCI would future proof operations, improve performance and security.

Migration without disruption

The company and Accenture enjoy a collaborative partnership. The process for creating a freestanding company began with discussions surrounding the benefit of using OCI. With the decision made, splitting the backend systems began. Nearly every function was impacted, from supply chain to marketing to finance. The company needed to operate smoothly without any disruption and Accenture worked closely with the internal IT team to ensure a seamless transition. The team included a project management office that oversaw technical architects, developers and testers using a “two-in-the box” approach, teaming someone from the client company and Accenture. Scope of the work was massive in size too. A separate team of experts from Accenture oversaw the entire separation process. This included separating all major functions of the newly formed company—from marketing to supply chain. The project also involved training the company’s IT team to ensure a smooth transition.

The migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was delivered on time and without disruption. Now the company enjoys new levels of agility and reliability throughout their IT infrastructure. Thanks to simplified lifecycle management of applications, they’re able to respond to new business opportunities more rapidly. OCI also boosted the security and availability of the company’s infrastructure by introducing a new disaster recovery capability which ensures zero downtime for things like network maintenance. The infrastructure also lays the groundwork for future automation thanks to the ability to use infrastructure-as-code for deploying OCI infrastructure. The company enjoys a number of other benefits thanks to their work with Accenture, including zero or minimal downtime during the transition with no risk to the continuity of business operations.
