Validating corporate and retail credit risk models
An Italian bank asked Accenture for support in its efforts to revise its credit risk models, processes and IT architecture in order to meet new regulatory requirements and efficiently manage its credit risk.
Our preliminary assessment identified the main actions, as well as the areas of credit risk (models, processes and IT architecture), that needed to be refined. We helped the bank’s Internal Model Validation function evaluate the design and methodological choices underlying their Probability of Default (PD) models on corporate and retail portfolios, and design a new framework of internal controls for its PD models.
With our help, the client has developed a new framework of internal controls that can easily be managed and monitored by its Internal Validation Office.
Converging risk and finance to digitalize credit
A large European bank wanted to converge its chief risk officer (CRO) and chief financial officer (CFO) areas to help deliver a fast, digital credit-granting process based on pre-evaluation of client reliability.
The bank asked Accenture for help. We proposed convergence to a centralized finance and risk data warehouse architecture, and creation of a common environment to provide data quality assurance and traceability. The Accenture team designed and modeled data to feed multiple CRO processes. Standard data warehouse mart structures were reshaped to integrate credit decision engines, and a new data quality and alert framework was defined.
The project positions the bank as one of the first in Europe to implement a converged CRO-CFO structure and digitalized credit offering.
Regulatory remediation for global bank
This large, global bank, operating under specific regulatory constraints, was required to demonstrate improved compliance in the area of financial crime regulations. Accenture was brought on board to develop a program focused on anti-money laundering (AML) transaction monitoring and name screening.
Phase one of the project consisted of a suite of focused initiatives to address immediate challenges across AML monitoring and screening. Phase two focused on transitioning to a strategic, standard global architecture that used advanced technology such as robotics and artificial intelligence. During Phase 3, we will be transitioning to a managed service based on defined components. Accenture will also have the opportunity to further develop the offering into a multi-bank cost mutualization utility.
