I am currently the Delivery Lead for an SAP implementation at a Federal Government Client in Ottawa. I am responsible for the delivery of our mandate and I lead a team of Accenture high performers and sub-contractors to deliver a solution that supports a major transformation for the client. My role is to manage the day-to-day delivery activities so as to ensure that we meet our client and internal commitments, while keeping the team engaged.
I have been delivering SAP solutions for most of my career at Accenture and have had many opportunities to make significant contributions to our clients across multiple industries in North America and globally (Spain, Norway, New Caledonia, Dominican Republic). Prior to my SAP life, I was able to contribute to a Post-Merger Integration in Toronto, Product Lifecycle Management in Vancouver, Voice Over IP roll-outs in the US, and custom development deliveries in Canada and the US.
A typical day, for me, starts at the client site. Generally, I spend my time connecting with the client and/or with the Accenture delivery teams. Through these daily interactions and meetings I focus on:
Leading the client and delivery teams to navigate the complex ERP implementation - providing direction and guidance to manage delivery risks for an optimal outcome and to ensure we are delivering exceptional value to our clients.
Engaging and empowering my team leads by coaching and developing them in order to help create a positive career experience and personal success for everyone.
Managing the internal activities such as the financial aspects of the contract and also collaborating with the client account leadership team for current and future opportunities.
Our family is active and tries to enjoy every season. We particularly enjoy the winter time for skiing, bug-free hikes with our dog Omega, skating, and I recently learned more winter survival skills through Scouts Canada. Scouting is also a family activity where I volunteer leading a Cub Scouting youth group, my wife is the Group Commissioner and our two boys are active participants. During the summer, our family spends our time camping, enjoying nature and unplugging for a while.
Take hold of your career. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and look ahead where you want to go and the work you want to do. Be proactive and explicit on your career goals and expectations – Accenture is all about people and your growth and success is key to Accenture’s own success (win-win).
Be flexible. Take advantage of your current role even if it is not your ideal role. Work with your team lead to expand or tailor your experience. Every project role provides you with opportunities to refine your skills in order to advance towards your career goals. Get involved in internal groups and initiatives to increase your visibility within Accenture. Balance your professional and personal life in a way that you are comfortable. Remember, balance is different for everyone and it will change throughout your career.
Stay positive and relentlessly constructive. Bring ideas and positive views to the table, not just issues and problems. Be a part of the solution.
