Building on a long legacy of government innovation, these agencies are accelerating digital transformation using agile processes, human-centered design, digital platforms, and smart analytics to create better customer experiences and drive improved performance. They know that digital government is not about innovation for its own sake, but operationalizing new technologies that improve citizen services, organizational effectiveness, and mission capabilities. They also know that an empowered, digital-ready workforce is a critical enabler of this transformation.

Government enters the metaverse

Welcome to the “Metaverse Continuum” – a spectrum of digitally enhanced worlds, realities, and business models that is bringing the next major wave of digital change to federal government.

 

The 2022 Federal Technology Vision explores four building blocks of this continuum:

  1. WebMe – Today’s metaverse and Web3 innovations are converging to create the next evolution of the internet.
  2. Programmable World – The customization and automation we expect from digital interactions is increasingly being embedded into our physical environments.
  3. The Unreal – Synthetic data presents a paradox. Bad actors can use it to cause serious harm, but its use is also increasingly necessary to the continued advancement of AI.
  4. Computing the Impossible – Next-generation computing – including quantum, high performance, and bio-computing – will help federal agencies solve previously unsolvable questions.
