METRO Italia: Pricing strategy case study

Growing sales volume and margins with pricing analytics services.

In just eight months, Accenture helped METRO Italia with the end-to-end roll out of Pricing Analytics Services based on Revionics software. Accenture is also providing services over three years to help generate valuable business insights from the pricing data and drive tangible business results. With optimized pricing, METRO Italia has enhanced market competitiveness, agility, sales volume—and profitability.

METRO Italia, part of METRO A.G., is a cash and carry retailer catering to professional customers, primarily in the hotel, restaurant and catering (HORECA) segment. With the Italian economy still in the doldrums, METRO Italia wanted to support its HORECA customers and increase satisfaction with the best market prices while improving profitability.

METRO Italia collaborated closely with Accenture to launch a Pricing Analytics Services pilot in just two months, completing the roll out in eight months and delivering immediate business results. Accenture helped manage the project end-to-end, encompassing: translating the high-level pricing strategy into practical business use, streamlining operational processes, implementing the Revionics solution and enabling change management activities. Accenture is also providing business services over three years; its team of experts provides ongoing support to METRO’s business owners to cement new pricing capabilities into “business as usual” activities.

With the new solution, METRO Italia has enhanced its pricing strategy to increase margins and grow sales volume. It now knows which product prices can impact store sales, as well as how best to manage its product categories for maximum profitability. New forecasting capabilities enable the company to see the potential impact of price changes before they happen. Accenture’s analytics services give METRO insight into price changes’ effect on the overall business and competitors’ reactions. The company can use these insights to adapt prices quickly in fast-changing market conditions, improving operational performance and growth.
