Opportunity

To position themselves in a key strategic role and to support the company’s business objectives, the HR team would need to overcome a number of challenges—including:

  • Decentralized, non-systemized and heterogeneous HR.

  • Too large a focus on administrative tasks.

  • Non-standardized HR policies and criteria.

  • No formalized systems or processes to facilitate learning and knowledge transfer.

Solution

Accenture Strategy helped Gas Natural Fenosa define and build an HR vision for the company, and support its transformation through three phases:

  • Phase I: Conceptualizing the vision, defining the objectives and developing the roadmap and an employee support model—based on a complete standardized HR service catalog (including payroll, social benefits, personal and professional dealings, training, performance and internal mobility).

  • Phase II: Defining, implementing and consolidating the model in Spain.

  • Phase III: Expanding the transformation across the company’s global business.

Results

Technology enhancements, standardization and centralization have provided the HR organization with a solid, integrated foundation and capabilities built on leading HR practices and processes.

As a result of this collaboration, Gas Natural Fenosa saw the following results:

  • Increases in efficiency have enabled resources to focus on higher-value activities.

  • Employee satisfaction improved 26 percent in one year.

  • More employees are using HR services, including:

    • Employee Care Service: 99 percent of employees used the channel during its first year

    • eLearning Service: Usage increased from 27 percent to 96.5 percent in the two months following the launch of the training itineraries

  • Improved knowledge management capabilities will enhance talent retention and expansion across its geographically dispersed employees.

  • HR is able to rapidly implement projects anywhere around the globe, providing online and face-to-face training to more than 18,000 people in a year.

  • This work was recognized as a 2014 finalist for the HRO Today Services and Technology awards for outstanding innovation in HR Transformation.
