The Skills to Succeed Academy aims to support disadvantaged young people to build the skills and confidence needed to make career choices and develop the key employability skills they need to find and sustain employment.
This free, digital, interactive program opened its virtual doors in 2013 in the United Kingdom and expanded to Ireland, South Africa and Australia in 2016. It also became available in the United States in October 2017 and will be launched in the Philippines in 2018.

“The Skills to Succeed Academy helped me identify my strong and weak skills and helped me choose which apprenticeships to apply for and understand what to expect at a workplace.”

“While there are plenty of courses helping young jobseekers find work, programs around sustaining employment and how to develop a career, the Skills to Succeed Academy does it best.”

Participants are actively involved in decision-based learning. With each decision, they receive instant feedback—both from the realistic characters with whom they interact in the training, and an online coach voiced by an experienced employability practitioner.
Skills to Succeed Academy offers a character-based learning program and engages participants with advanced learning technologies, gaming techniques, role-based simulations, videos, quizzes and interactive exercises. Training can be accessed in the following ways:
Self-directed learning: Access the training on the Internet, without the support of a trainer. Offline Activity Packs are also available which consist of editable PDF documents that users can access to apply the learning to their own situation
Classroom (Blended) learning: A young person completes the training in a classroom environment, supported by a trainer. They can also be assigned ‘homework’ for completion before or after a training session. In Classroom training, it is preferable for each user to have access to their own computer. However, if this is not possible, the Academy training can be delivered at the front of the room with one computer being projected to all attendees.”
The Academy offers three courses and 36 interactive learning modules to help young people build skills to choose a career; find and successfully apply for a job; and be successful in a work environment. Participants are actively involved in decision-based learning. With each decision, they receive instant feedback—both from the realistic characters they interact with in the training and an online coach.
To scale its reach, Skills to Succeed Academy offers a global version with standard core content, as well as offline materials that can be translated or localized to maximize impact. Characters represent diverse geographies, including Ireland, South Africa and Australia. The Academy is also compatible offline and on mobile devices.
