Due to limited or no connectivity while working remotely, workers frequently found it difficult to send and receive communications such as enterprise news, bulletins and blogs.
The company sought to enable rig workers to conveniently connect with their work community and access internal news and blogs directly from their mobile devices regardless of their location in the world, whether on or offshore.
To keep rig workers engaged and up-to-date on news pertaining to the company or local rig, the company prioritized the development of a sophisticated and easy-to-use mobile app with the ability to automatically download and synchronize news to its employees.
Accenture teams, including Accenture Mobility specialists, Avanade and Accenture Multimedia Agency, delivered a hybrid cross platform mobile app running on iOS with a customized app and backend using Microsoft's Azure Cloud Solution and Microsoft Sharepoint Online.
To deliver a solution for a fraction of the cost of an on-premises solution that would also provide unlimited capacity, Accenture recommended a cloud-based content management system.
The app was released on schedule, exceeding the company’s high standards for delivery, user experience and overall quality.
More than 1,000 employees use the app to keep abreast of news and information that can affect their job performance and rig safety.
The app provided up-to-date contact information and a performance management dashboard with a graphical performance history for each rig. Each rig manager could even send out a biweekly newsletter using the app, addressing safety issues concerning the rig, which helps work performance and to ensure the safety of the rig and the well-being of its workers. Due to the success of this project, the company continues to partner with Accenture Mobility to develop new features and capabilities for the future.
