A GLOBAL CHEMICAL COMPANY DIVESTED A SIGNIFICANT BUSINESS UNIT AND NEEDED A NEW AND INDEPENDENT IT ENVIRONMENT.
Per the terms of the sale, the company required a cloud-based IT solution that would provide the new entity with all the capabilities needed to operate a standalone, global chemical manufacturing and trading business—while delivering greater flexibility and lower cost operations. To accomplish this goal, Accenture helped drive and verify the separation of all applications, data, infrastructure, services and communications from the parent company.
ACCENTURE MANAGED THE IT SEPARATION PROGRAM, OVERSEEING ALL THIRD PARTIES AND DEVELOPING NEW, STANDALONE IT CAPABILITIES BASED ON THE EXISTING TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT.
The multiple workstream project first involved establishing a network and computer infrastructure in the Microsoft Azure cloud. Business and non-business critical applications were then migrated in waves to manage separation risks. In parallel, end-user computing, telephony and voice separation were conducted—geography by geography.
Once the data center, network and infrastructure were in place, the team turned to rolling out a new wide area network (WAN) across the company’s sites. To establish governance and reporting capabilities essential for project transparency, Accenture employed its IT carve-out job aid and PMO-in-a-box assets.
CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS OF THE SALE WERE FULFILLED AND A NEW OPERATING ENVIRONMENT WAS ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER FUTURE SUCCESS.
The IT separation program delivered numerous benefits, including:
OPTIMIZED IT ENVIRONMENT
A rationalized and simplified environment was built from the ground up—featuring all the capabilities required for efficient company operations.
The program was delivered through a managed services strategy with cloud-based capabilities hosted in multiple locations across the globe.

All operational aspects of the new IT environment will be outsourced, bypassing the need for in-house support.
Lower Cost Operations
The new entity operates with a thin layer of management and is well positioned to achieve low cost IT operations—driving value to the bottom line.
