Job Description
As a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer, you will leverage your extensive experience in mining and resources to design, implement, and maintain advanced automation and instrumentation systems. You will play a key role in upgrading PLC and SCADA systems, ensuring efficient operation of telemetry systems, and mentoring junior staff. Working with the wider Industry X team, this person will develop our Control Systems and OT capability in South Australia to support key clients in process intensive industries across mining and hot metals.

THE WORK:
System Design and Upgrades: Lead and execute PLC and SCADA upgrades, including designing and implementing new systems to enhance operational efficiency.
Automation and Instrumentation: Utilize your practical site experience to manage and troubleshoot automation and instrumentation systems. Ensure systems are operating at optimal levels.
Commissioning and Fault Diagnosis: Oversee the commissioning of new systems and conduct fault diagnosis to swiftly resolve any issues, minimizing downtime and operational disruption.
Documentation: Produce high-quality technical documentation, including system design specifications, operational procedures, and maintenance manuals.
Mentorship: Act as a mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.
Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met. Utilize strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical concepts.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all systems comply with functional safety standards and contribute to safety audits and assessments. TUV Certification is highly regarded.
Qualifications
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Education: Degree-qualified Engineer with a focus in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or a related field.
Experience: At least 10 years of experience in the mining and resources industry, with a solid background in automation and controls. Hands-on experience with Rockwell PLC/SCADA products and/or Schneider Plant SCADA.
Technical Skills:
Extensive experience with a range of PLC, SCADA, RTU, and DCS types and applications.
Proficiency in LV Electrical Design, telemetry systems, SQL databases, and communications networks.
Practical experience in commissioning, fault diagnosis, and system upgrades.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE / PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES / PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
Previous experience with Managing and developing an Engineering team
Project Management, estimating and preparing quotation experience
Previous Experience with Capital Projects and Greenfield sites in the Mining & Resources sector
