What you’ll do
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of critical mainframe systems and applications that form the backbone of the enterprise's IT infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of mainframe environments, while also implementing modernization strategies and integrating legacy systems with contemporary technologies.
Security Clearance Requirement Given the secure nature of this role, we are seeking candidates who are Australian Citizens with an active security clearance or are eligible for obtaining security clearance.
This requirement ensures that all team members are cleared to handle sensitive information and contribute to maintaining the highest standards of security in our operations.
On-call and Shift Expectations: This position is primarily focused on managed services, meaning you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our clients' IT systems (Applications and Infrastructure). Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you may be required to work in shifts to provide continuous support. Additionally, you may need to be on call to address incidents promptly and perform after-hours deployment activities as needed. Your ability to effectively manage these responsibilities will be crucial to ensuring the seamless operation of our services and client satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Infrastructure Automation: Design, implement, and manage infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Packer to provision and configure infrastructure resources in a scalable and repeatable manner.
- Monitoring and Logging: Implement monitoring and logging solutions using tools like Prometheus, ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or Grafana to track system performance, detect anomalies, and troubleshoot issues proactively.
- Cloud Computing: Architect, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure and services on platforms such as AWS and Azure, optimizing for performance, cost, and scalability.
- Security and Compliance: Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce security best practices and compliance requirements across the DevOps environment, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data and systems.
- Scripting and Automation: Develop automation scripts and tools using languages such as PowerShell or Bash to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with development, operations, and other cross-functional teams to understand requirements, provide technical guidance, and drive initiatives to improve DevOps practices and processes.
Qualifications
Here’s what you need
- Expertise in mainframe technologies, including Microfocus Enterprise Suite, IBM z/OS, COBOL, JCL, and VSAM, with a focus on designing and implementing robust and efficient solutions to meet business requirements
- Proficiency in mainframe debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve issues, optimize resource utilization, and ensure high availability of mission-critical applications
- Strong understanding of mainframe security principles and best practices, including access controls, encryption, and compliance standards, to safeguard sensitive data and mitigate risks effectively
- Experience in mainframe modernization initiatives, such as migration to cloud platforms, refactoring legacy code, and integrating mainframe systems with distributed architectures, to drive innovation and improve agility
- Knowledge of mainframe automation tools and scripting languages, such as REXX and CLIST, to streamline operational tasks, automate routine processes, and enhance productivity
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders, to gather requirements, define technical solutions, and deliver high-quality mainframe solutions on schedule
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to analyse complex mainframe issues, evaluate alternative solutions, and implement effective resolutions, ensuring the reliability and stability of mainframe systems in production environments
Bonus points if with
- Familiarity with mainframe database systems like DB2 and IMS, including database design, administration, and SQL query optimization, to ensure data integrity and performance within mainframe environments.
