Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori S.p.A. (NTV): High-speed rail transportation service

Accenture helped NTV build an agile information technology (IT) infrastructure to enhance its business operations and improve customer service.

Overview

NTV is the first private operator to manage a high-speed rail network in Italy and the first operator globally to use the Alstom AGV train, with a rail speed of 575 km per hour. In April 2012, NTV launched its passenger transportation services on the Rome to Milan route with the brand Italo. With 50 daily departures, a fleet of 25 AGV trains links all major Italian cities on high-speed lines.

NTV needed a robust IT platform to achieve superior customer service shaped on an understanding of the habits, preferences and travel experience of passengers. To help achieve these goals, NTV turned to Accenture based on our experience in working with major European rail companies.

Solution

Accenture worked with NTV on four major work streams:

  • CRM: We created a CRM solution based on Oracle that enables a personalized passenger management across all sales and assistance channels.

  • Booking system: We created an efficient, flexible booking system that addresses NTV’s commercial strategy—multichannel distribution, inventory, scheduling, fares, sales support and ancillary services.

  • Service-oriented architecture (SOA): We built an SOA that helps NTV seamlessly integrate all its functions—facilitating and coordinating the communication between its different software systems.

  • Business simulation: We applied our consolidated testing methodology to simulate how the company would operate from day one. During the construction phase, we staged sequential releases of the IT architecture, which included planning and execution of hundreds of test cases.
