CA Technologies: Web transformation

Accenture helps in building CA Technologies’ brand in the Cloud Computing era and transforms its identity in time for its annual global marketing event.


CA Technologies manages and secures IT environments, enabling customers to deliver more flexible IT services. CA Technologies works with the majority of the Forbes Global 2000, as well as government organizations and thousands of companies in diverse industries worldwide. Founded in 1976, CA Technologies serves customers in virtually every country in the world and reported fiscal year 2010 revenue of $4.3 billion.

When the company needed to improve its Web presence, it turned to Accenture.

Business Challenge

CA Technologies realized it could benefit greatly from an improved, more unified online presence. Customers and prospects encountered varying user interfaces, navigation structures and security systems to access a wealth of information. The situation had become increasingly complex due to acquisitions and by allowing a diverse range of Web properties to be run with a good deal of independence. Improved standards and processes could make CA Technologies’ portals easier to use and lower in cost to maintain.

An improved Web presence was also needed as the company planned a strategic rebranding to establish its new corporate identity as a market leader in cloud computing. A business case was assembled to integrate assets—including, CA Support Online, my CA and others sites—with a single set of portal, analytics, sign-on and content management technologies. The business case targeted not only a revolutionary improvement in user experience but also cost savings due to heightened efficiency in back-end administration. Company leaders set an ambitious timeline for the work to be done.

The job, which included requirements definition, construction and global deployment, needed to be completed in less than a half year—22 weeks, in fact—just in time for the annual global CA World 2010 conference in Las Vegas.


Accenture’s main focus was to set up a program management office (PMO) to bring together a wide range of internal stakeholders. The PMO needed to manage complexity from three business units and more than a dozen work streams involved in portals and technology infrastructure.

Accenture's ongoing research into the characteristics of high-performance businesses shows that the most successful are those that can provide timely information to employees through technology so they can deliver an excellent, branded experience at every customer touch point. This knowledge proved useful as CA Technologies planned to roll out its updated brand and visual identity simultaneously with a technology implementation and a revamped website navigation structure focused on cloud computing.
