Citizens today expect government to provide basic informational services – such as traffic and road conditions – on mobile platforms. However, government can do much more with mobile to improve citizen engagement than simply providing information. Self-service through mobile apps is a natural evolution of government cost reduction for everything from applying for services to checking the status of an account. Mobility has the potential to reshape citizen engagement by promoting government cost reduction and enabling new dialogues between citizens and agencies using social media, gaming and other platforms.
