SAP S/4HANA migration

We can help plan the S/4HANA migration roadmap, navigating risk and considering the variables of each organization’s existing systems, architecture and technology.

TIME TO GET MOVING

SAP Business Suite 4 HANA (SAP S/4HANA) provides a platform well suited to the demands of the high velocity enterprise in a fast-moving digital business world.

S/4HANA is fast becoming the core platform for our clients in their digital transformation agenda. All of the available and planned SAP S/4HANA innovations require SAP HANA, and migrating unlocks its potential. This raises key questions.

What are the options for migration that will suit the specific needs of each organization? How should current SAP systems, timetables and resources determine the best approach?

  • There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

  • You can flex timetables to meet requirements of your resources and schedules.

  • Our approach recognizes that different organizations operate with different priorities.

Our proven methodologies, assets and capabilities for migration enable us to help clients on their end-to-end journey to capture the power of SAP HANA’s in-memory computing.

KNOW YOUR OPTIONS

Both on-premise and cloud routes to migration are feasible. Our experience from more than 200 SAP HANA projects enables us to advise and support clients on the option that is most appropriate for them.

ON-PREMISE OPTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Greenfield migration.

  • In-place migration (reuse existing application hardware while only replacing the database hardware).

  • Downtime-minimized approach (create, upgrade and migrate a system copy with delta replay).

For cloud migration, we help clients select their best route to deploy SAP HANA to the cloud (private, public and hybrid) through our extensive alliance ecosystem.

Furthermore, we can advise on and support the technical system deployment option selected by the organization including:

  • A mix of new and existing infrastructure (tailored data center integration).

  • Virtualized or bare metal.

  • Multiple components on one database or one system.

  • Multi-database container.

CHOOSING A PATH

SAP S/4HANA MIGRATION PATHS

Some organizations may elect not to migrate but rather opt for a “greenfield” installation that simply requires data migration from the old system into a completely new SAP HANA environment.

However, for the majority, a “brownfield” migration is the likely path, moving from existing systems, upgrading and reusing existing system elements selectively.

At this stage, we assess the current SAP system and the steps required, including whether to maintain existing databases or move to a new version.

Taking a phased approach makes it possible to manage the migration costs in line with planned budgets and timetables. We work with organizations to help them understand the changes they need to make.

WHY GO OUR ROUTE?

As SAP’s leading partner and largest implementer of SAP HANA-based solutions and applications globally, we bring the latest knowledge and experience to help choose the most efficient and effective approach.

We also provide a range of unique, proprietary tools to accelerate migration and reduce the risks, for example:

Accelerated SAP HANA migration (AHM) brings all migration activities together, accelerating the technical steps required by applying industrialized processes. Applying tools, accelerators, lessons learned, best practices, a dedicated team and standardized processes in pre- and post-migration activities can significantly reduce the time and risk compared with a traditional migration approach.

The Accenture SAP HANA profiler tool significantly reduces manual effort to ensure a successful and more efficient migration. For a client seeking to migrate to SAP HANA and facing a complex and customized environment which posed a high migration risk, our profiler helped identify and categorize more than 6,500 exceptions that were addressed and fixed using Accenture’s automatic code correction tool.
