Lungile Mginqi graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1997 with a master of engineering degree. He joined Accenture in 1998, and has built up a solid career in the utilities industry, four years of it working for one of Accenture’s major clients in North America. He is currently working on many projects for energy utilities across South Africa.
“Here in South Africa utilities face a devastating triple backlog: supply capacity, maintenance of distribution infrastructure, and debt collection,” Mginqi says. “The key, it seems to me, is that the solutions adopted to resolve the backlog must also ensure that they address the factors that caused it in the first place.”
Mginqi goes on to argue that Accenture brings a wealth of experience to the table in helping utilities overcome these and other challenges. “We have worked on capital-build projects, master planning projects for distribution companies and strategies to collect debt. As a result we have considerable global and local experience and can bring the right skills to bear to get the right results fast.”
Married and with two young children, Mginqi has channelled his love of teaching into part-time tutoring in maths, science and technology for the local school. He’s also closely involved with the education of his own children. For the rest, “golf remains my handicap,” he says.
