Since his first project working with the Independent Electoral Commission on the 1999 national elections, Lee Naik has found that Accenture is uniquely placed to help government at all levels transform its service delivery, accelerating the creation of a better life for the people of South Africa.
“It is this ability to make a difference to ordinary people that that first attracted me to this industry sector, and to this day provides the impetus for my career,” says Naik.
Naik points to Accenture’s work with the Independent Electoral Commission and the South African Revenue Services as great examples of large-scale, complex initiatives that have transformed service delivery and made a real impact on citizens.
“This formula for success is the combination of Accenture’s ability to leverage its proven methodologies, global experience and great people,” explains Naik.
During his time at Accenture, Naik’s focus has shifted from delivering large-scale technology projects to one of value creation in his role leading Accenture’s IT Strategy and Transformation practice. He is focused on working closely with government and private sector clients to understand how they can optimise their IT and communication capabilities to make a meaningful contribution towards the achievement their organisations strategic objectives.
Looking ahead, Naik points to the rise of globalisation, the evolution and maturation of technology and the increased involvement of citizens as key considerations for governments seeking to improve service delivery. Citizens are demanding increased transparency and accountability from government, in addition to wanting to be engaged in decisions on policy and service delivery. “This move to e-governance has started happening around the world, and will be a key attribute of high performance in public service,” he says.
Naik graduated from University of KwaZulu-Natal with a Bachelor of Science in computer science and applied maths, joining Accenture after graduation. Promotion to senior executive in 2009 fulfilled a major personal goal, and his focus as part of the leadership of the Health & Public Service operating group is on creating and expanding partnerships with government and the private sector to drive improvements in service delivery. Naik is also passionate about developing people, providing the mentorship and growth opportunities to help them succeed and develop fulfilling careers at Accenture.
Naik’s spare time is spent with his wife, Kolleen and his children Kian and Erin. He points out the importance of finding balance between an exciting Accenture career; the joys of spending quality time with family and friends; and hobbies. “Accenture provides the flexibility and a host of support mechanisms to make this possible,” he adds.
