His ambition is to ensure that Accenture constantly surpasses its rivals in his areas of endeavour. He believes that Accenture can add significant value to all spheres of government and has the experience and track record to partner with the South African government in its transformation journey.
Accenture developed two of government’s transversal applications and has maintained them for years. With Bouwer as client executive, Accenture was contracted to implement customer relationship management applications for the South African Revenue Services, which, among other things, introduced a modern electronic filing and payment system.
Bouwer was also involved in establishing Accenture as the revenue services’ modernization partner.
This year marks the 10th year since Bouwer returned to Accenture's diverse working environment, one that he says he could not find anywhere else. He says the company's ability to adapt to changing landscapes is astonishing and ascribes it to a multitalented team.
Bouwer and his team are yet again hard at work at various government departments and agencies.
Bouwer says the health and public service industry has been clear concerning the service delivery mandate and that keeps departments on their toes. As a result there has been a considerable escalation in demand for technology solutions to help speed up processes. While Accenture's success is notable, Bouwer states that competition is also growing fast. However, he has been overwhelmed by the will among competitors to cooperate.
Bouwer completed a B.Com information systems degree with majors in economics and accounting at the University of Johannesburg in 1987.
After completing a couple of Two Oceans and Comrades marathons, he now focuses on half marathons and cycling. Even though he now lives in Pretoria, he continues to support the Lions rugby team, which is associated with Johannesburg. His favourite reading is biographies.
In terms of music Bouwer listens to anything that pleases his ears. His favourite outing is a safari into Africa with his wife and their twins, who are already public figures. Renier (boy) and Hidé (girl) are featured on Accenture's black economic empowerment print campaigns alongside eight-year-old Thabo, hailed as global citizens, children of South Africa and as future leaders.
Bouwer is also an advisor to the chancellor of Fort Hare University. Bouwer ascribes his personal success to Accenture and thanks the company for mobilising good people who give him strength and a reason to wake up in the morning and come to work. If he was to be the country's president for a day, he would focus on delivering basic needs services to the community at large.
