After graduating from the University of Pretoria with a bachelor of engineering degree, Dylan Duffus joined Accenture as an analyst. During his early years with the company, he worked on a large project for a governmental entity that ultimately became an outsourcing deal. “The opportunity to grow with that project and help to build the long-term partnership that is outsourcing changed my career. Since then, I have been involved with the discipline of outsourcing,” he says.
He currently looks after a major retail client for whom Accenture provides application outsourcing. “Retailers in general face the overriding challenge of competing for share of wallet within a customer base that is increasingly demanding and less loyal. That means they have to deliver the range and value that customers now expect—and also an attractive shopping experience. Bringing those elements together is difficult,” Duffus says. “Accenture has a real role to play in helping them. We can put together cross-disciplinary teams that contain the breadth and depth of subject-matter expertise needed, and we can also leverage the Accenture Global Delivery Network to obtain cost benefits.”
In his spare time, Duffus does a little charity work and fund-raising for his children’s schools. He plays squash for exercise but fishing is his passion—anything from dry-fly fishing to deep-sea adventures will do.
